Paul, the most prolific writer in the New Testament is a many faceted person. He was first said to be a Hebrew of Hebrews, an avowed enemy of the members of the Jerusalem Church, then he seems to have become the founder and father of a church which came to be addressed as ‘The Church’. How much do we know or understand of this ‘Church that Paul built’? Perhaps by exploration we may better understand both Paul and ‘The Church’.

As we can well understand from reading Paul’s writings, he became an avid ‘Jew hater’, a concept which is shown clearly in many of his statements.* He considered this newly resurrected ‘Christ’ to have been crucified by the ‘Jews’. He believed that this Christ was opposed to the continuing practices of the Jews. Practices which included circumcision, sacrifice, kosher food, strict obedience to Torah were seen by Paul as anti-Christ. If these practices were allowed to continue among those followers of the risen Messiah, Paul’s church would be facing major obstacles, for what he was teaching ran counter to the Jewish followers of the Messiah.

If we have studied the history of Paul, the church and the politics of the day, we know that there was Roman domination in the land of the Jews. Paul was said to have Roman citizenship, which he used when he found himself in the midst of troubles. Finally we are informed that Paul was put under ‘house arrest’ in Rome, with most of the comforts supplied. Myth tells us that Paul was beheaded by the Roman authorities but there is no proven base for this claim. Rather more believable is that he lived out his life in his villa in Rome.

Over the years, the followers of Paul’s teachings grew in number. They did not pledge their allegiance to Rome and since the ‘held all things in common’ it was very difficult to pin down ownership of any of their holdings, thus tax revenue was lost to Rome.

The many pagan religions of the day had their ‘days of worship’, their festivals and numerous gods and goddesses. Many of these customs were brought back by the Roman army, who naturally came in contact with the peoples gods in the course of conquest or administration of Rome’s far reaching tributaries.

Then the Emperor Constantine came into play. Legend says that Constantine saw a huge cross in the sky and heard the words, ‘By this sign you will conquer!’. Realizing the conflicts that were caused by the various religions and knowing that the Pauline Christians refused to give up their religion, he decided on a compromise that would bring the factions together. It was decided that all would worship on the same day, the day of the sun, that holy days and holidays would be meshed together in a way to appease all sides and have unity in the Roman Empire. Thus Sunday became the day of worship, Easter supplanted Pesach (Passover), Christmas and the Winter Solstice were bonded and called ‘Jesus’ birthday to name only a few. Christianity was named the official religion of the Roman Empire. Paul’s greatest desires were reached in this move for we find that anti-Semitism was a hallmark of ‘The Church’. Jerusalem was finally diminished and Pauline Christianity had defeated the original Apostles teaching and the Jewish Mashiyach. There would have been joy in his heart perhaps because these who said they were ‘the chosen people’ had finally been brought low in one more humiliation.

A book was recently authored by a man named John Cornwell, a Catholic who teaches at Jesus College in Cambridge, England. This best-selling book, Hitler’s Pope exposes the Vatican’s complicity with Hitler during the Holocaust. Not a surprise from a system, the papacy, who has shown anti-Semitism from it’s very inception.

Recently Pope John Paul II spoke at the Jewish Holocaust Memorial in Jerusalem and made a public confession of guilt and pled for forgiveness for over 2000 years of past and present sins by the sons and daughters . He said this year should be proclaimed ‘a year of mercy’. This indeed was a public confession but it was vague and no specific leaving us to wonder if it was a ‘good’ confession. I am told by one raised as a Roman Catholic, that to make a ‘good’ confession, we must be specific, be sorry and promise never to do it again. While the Pope may have been sorry, he was not specific and he made no promises of future actions. There was also a 19,000 page document accompanying his self-pardoning which was entitled "Memory and Reconciliation: The Church and the Faults of the Past". Though this document contained 19,000 words, it also was not specific. It speaks of ‘past faults’ and ‘scandals of the past’ but the lack of specified scandal or faults have caused many to question his motives.

John Paul has brought the papacy into the spotlight as never before. The ailing Pope is a favored leader among Catholics and even among Protestants he receives a grudging but real respect. Considering John Paul’s age and health status, everyone knows that a new Pope will come in the near future so the ‘church fathers’ would rather have the past wiped away and fear the efficacy of a sweeping, non-specific apology in wiping away the past ‘faults’. These faults and bizarre behavior as well as not a few perversions, rest within the popes themselves.

Pope Pius XII is the central figure in Cornwell’s book, Hitler’s Pope. While attempting to invalidate accusations against Pope Pius XII, Cornwell was given unlimited access to the treasured Vatican archives. Upon discovering the darker side of Pius XII, Cornwell said he felt in a state of ‘moral shock’. In his book, he accuses Pope Pius XII of appeasing Hitler, ignoring the Jewish plight and turning a blind eye toward Nazi atrocities. One example given by the author was an incident near the end of the war. Pope Pius had been receiving information about ‘Hitler’s Final Solution’ all through the year 1942. He was urged repeatedly by Jewish Groups and Allied officials to publicly denounce and condemn Nazi savagery. Finally as the pressure on him increased, Pius, on a December 1942 radio addressed referred to the many thousands who "sometimes only by reason of their nationality or race are marked down for death or gradual extinction". That was his strongest objection and he did not even mention Hitler by name, nor did he mention Nazis or Jews. Ten months later, in October 1943, 365 of Hitler’s SS troops Rome’s old ghetto and began arresting Italian Jews who were then transported to a building less than ½ mile from the Vatican. German trucks carrying the prisoners were driven by St. Peter’s Square so the drivers could view the old church. There, under Pius’ nose the prisoners remained for two days before being loaded on cattle cars and taken to Auschwitz where 80% were gassed within one week and the other 20% were made into slave laborers. Pius, the leader at that time of more than a half-billion ‘Christians, remained silent although one word from him might have saved 1045 lives as only 15 of the 1060 who stayed 2 days practically under his window survived the war.

One of the survivors said in a TV interview, "Didn’t the pope know where they were taking us? Didn’t he ask himself where those railroad tracks ended up? We were right under his window, but his voice wasn’t lifted. Nobody came, not even to save a child". A Vatican representative attempted to answer the victims questions, by saying the pope couldn’t leave the Vatican because it was surrounded by German troops, He might have been arrested." The interviewer responded, But wouldn’t that be the kind of action that a true saint would have taken? Wouldn’t that be what Christ would have done?" The Vatican representative could only mutter he did not know what Christ would have done, but he said very clearly that Pope Pius XII should be made a saint, an honor reserved for few. He also replied when asked if Cornwell’s book Nazi Pope would have any bearing on the decision to confer sainthood on Pius or to with hold it, It will have no bearing whatsoever on the decision, totally disregarding the fact that the research for the book was predominately done in the Vatican’s own archives. By their fruits we shall know them.

This same Vatican representative Peter Gumpel had publicly condemned the Jews as ‘Christ-killers’ and declared the Vatican’s stand on the sainthood for Pius XII only two days before Pope John Paul II arrived in Jerusalem and made his vague apologies. Would this not cause us to doubt his sincerity when he backs the desire to confer the honor of sainthood on Pius XII, a fascist sympathizer who did nothing to help the Jews during the Holocaust and yet helped Nazi war criminals escape through the so called Vatican ‘Ratlines’ after the war? We have in recent times seen some of those Nazis found and arrested but many more have lived out their lives in comfort. We can, at least in part, thank Pope Pius XII and those who helped for the Nazis who escaped to freedom and even favor while the Jews who survived learned to deal with the night terrors.

Let us look at just a few of the ‘leaders’ of the Church that Paul, with the assistance of Constantine built. This Church is ‘alive and well’ and still seeking the souls of the chosen ones to this day.

Sabinian

The history of any Pope is tied to the history of Europe and, more specifically, to the Holy Roman Empire. In essence, we can only understand the popes in their historical context.

Sabinian, the 65th pope, was one of the most loathed pontiffs in history. He came into power in A.D. 606 during the Lombard invasion of Italy. The continual military conflict over Italian soil had caused great famine. Sabinian maintained a tight control over food supplies in Rome. In fact, he sold food to the poor for profit. Sabinian was so hated that when he died in 606 his funeral procession was diverted outside of the city walls to avoid public protest. He was buried in a secret location in the Lateran Basilica.

Stephen VI (VII)

One of the most bizarre historical accounts involving the papacy involves an event known as the Cadaver Synod. Stephen, made pope in 896, ordered the exhumation of his predecessor, Pope Formosus, and had him tried for alleged crimes against the church. Formosus had only been dead for about nine months. Stephen dressed Formosus’ corpse in papal robes and sat it in a chair. Stephen presided over the trial.

E. R. Chamberlain writes, "The corpse was provided with a council, who wisely kept silent while Pope Stephen raved and screamed his insults at it. The pretext for the trial was that Formosus, contrary to canon law, had accepted the bishopric of Rome while he was still bishop of another diocese. But few, if any, in the council chamber, were impressed by the charge. The real crime of Formosus was that he had been a member of the opposite faction and had crowned ‘emperor’ one of the numerous illegitimate descendants of Charlemagne after having performed the same office for the candidate favored by Pope Stephen’s party"

Formosus was declared guilty. His remains were dragged through the streets of Rome and then thrown in the Tiber. The effect of the Cadaver Synod backfired on Stephen. Formosus supporters, appalled by Stephen’s macabre trial, rebelled. He was deposed, imprisoned and strangled to death.

Sergius III

Richard P. McBrien, Professor of Theology at Notre Dame, Catholic priest and author of the 1997 book Lives of the Popes, puts Sergius on his list of the 24 worst popes. Sergius was a murderous individual. He had his predecessor, Leo V and Leo’s rival, Christopher, murdered to secure his office. Sergius was made pope in 904, which was the same time the Theophylact family held sway over Rome.

Theophylact was a senator and commanded the local militia. Theophylact’s wife Theodora, and her daughter, Marozia, held sway over much of the affairs of state. They used illicit sex to maintain their power and influence. Sergius was a favorite of the family. McBrien writes, "Sergius was so close to his (Theophylact’s) family, in fact, that he was reputed to have had a son (the future Pope John XI) by the 15 year old daughter of Theophylact’s wife, Theodora. So corrupted was Sergius and his immediate successors by the Theophylact family, that the subsequent decades have been called the ‘pornocracy’ of the papacy. Essentially throughout his base pontificate Sergius did the bidding of the Theophylact women. Some historians refer to his pontificate as ‘the rule of the harlots’.

Innocent IV

Listening to John Paul II’s request for forgiveness, any student of history would naturally ask, which past sins? Could John Paul have been referring to the Inquisition? Most journalists believe he was. In "Memory and Reconciliation" while referring to John Paul’s letter, ‘Tertio millennio adveniente’, it is stated, "The church is invited to ‘become more fully conscious of the sinfulness of her children.’ ...Some of these are explicitly mentioned, like the separation of Christians, or the ‘methods of violence and intolerance’ used in the past to evangelize". Certainly the Inquisition represents the darkest of Roman Church history. The blood of millions was shed supposedly in the name of Christ.

It was Pope Gregory IX who established the papal Inquisition under the direction of the Dominicans in 1221. The Dominicans, known as the preachers, were not tied to any one location but were dispatched like an army on the move. Their mission was to search out all Albigensian heretics and bring them back into the Roman fold. The Albigensians not only papal authority but also other false teachings of the church. With the approval of Emperor Frederick II, Gregory ordered the Dominicans to crush the Albigensians. The Dominicans, also known as Black Friars, were very effective at their job. They became accuser, judge and jury. They turned their victims over to the civil authorities. At that time, most heretics were burned alive.

It was Innocent IV, made pope in 1243, who approved the use of torture to extract confessions of heresy. He aggressively applied the principle that ‘the ends justified the means’. It is shocking to learn about the deranged instrument of torture that was used on so many innocent people. One of the most famous people to suffer at the hands of Roman inquisitors was Galileo. The church condemned Galileo for claiming the earth revolved around the sun. It is interesting to note that Galileo was ‘rehabilitated’ posthumously by John Paul II in 1992.

Paul IV

Of course, the 700 year old Spanish Inquisition is more notorious than the Roman. It was Sixtus IV who authorized the commencement of the council in 1479 under the Catholic monarchs Ferdinand II and Isabella of Spain. The Inquisition’s primary targets were Muslims and Jews, but then it quickly broadened to include witches and political enemies. The council’s methods included torture, confiscation of property and execution through burning. Sixtus appointed Tomas de Torquemada, a Spanish Dominican, as its first Grand Inquisitor.

At first, the Inquisition forced the conversion of Jews and Muslims. Eventually Torquemada ordered the expulsion of all Jews from Spain in 1492.Then he initiated the genocide of the Moriscos---converted Muslims living in Spain who had retained some Islamic practices.. The Spanish Inquisition was widely expanded into Europe and came to full fury during the Protestant Reformation. The Inquisition proved to be an effective counter-Reformation weapon. It is estimated that over 50 million people were executed by the church. The Spanish Inquisition was not finally abolished until the 19th century.

It was Paul IV who gave the Spanish Inquisition its most effective means of prosecuting heretics. He created the Index of Forbidden Books. Anyone caught in possession of books on the list was in danger of ex-communication, torture and death. Reuters reported on January 22, 1998, that the Holy Bible was one of the books on that list. It came as a surprise to many that the hand-written copies of the Bible had ended up on Inquisition heretical-book bonfires. The greater sin however, was that many Christians known as Waldensians were executed for owning copies of Scripture. McBrien also states this about Paul IV; "He was bitterly anti-Protestant and anti-Semitic, confining Jews to a special quarter in Rome and forcing them to wear distinctive headgear"

It is interesting to note that the Roman Congregation of the Inquisition was never abolished. In 1965 Pope Paul VI renamed it Congregation for the Doctrine of the Faith. Cardinal Joseph Ratzinger is the office’s present head. It is also interesting that the Index of Forbidden Books was not abolished until 1966.

Pius XII

John Paul’s millennium repentance was also viewed by many as an attempt to heal the wounds caused by Pope Pius XII’s failure to rescue the Jews during the Holocaust. In essence, John Paul was apologizing for Catholic inaction during World War II. Pius XII has been accused of remaining silent and turning his head the other way while millions died. In 1999 John Paul made a proposal to canonize the wartime pope. Jewish leaders are bitterly opposed to such a move.

Questions concerning the Vatican’s responsibility with regard to the persecution of the Jews came into sharp focus during the 1990's. Several well-documented and condemning books were published showing that the Vatican was more than just silent during World War II. Mark Aarons and John Loftus wrote a book titled The Unholy Trinity, which provides abundant documentation that the Vatican heavily sponsored the ignoble "Ratlines" used to help most of the Nazi leaders to escape the Allies after World War II.

Catholic historian John Cornwell’s book Hitler’s Pope: The Secret History of Pius XII, published in 1999, shows that prior to his election as pope, Pius XII, as the Vatican representative in pre-war Berlin and then as its Secretary of State, helped stamp out opposition to Nazism in the German church. He also abandoned Catholic political parties opposed to Hitler.

Cornwell then charges Pius XII of failing to use his influence in favor of the Jews. The pope did have access to Hitler’s extensive killing of Jews. He mildly objected to their persecution rather late in the game. And then, during his objection, he did not even mention the Jews by name. Pius XII has also been criticized by historians for failing to warn the Jewish community in Rome before their round-up. There is also cause for concern that Pius never protested the Nazi murder of 20% of the Polish Catholic clergy.

In Conclusion

For those who read this who are Catholic, open your eyes and look at where you have and are still being led. The wicked and blind leaders can only lead you to destruction. If you read this then now you know. You may chose to read or not read. You may also choose truth or lie, life or death. It is now up to you.

To those non-Catholic Protestant Pauline Christians, you may not comprehend what this even has to do with you but if the Roman Catholic Church is the Murderous Harlot, then you are her children. The so called Reformation only did what so many have done, they threw away what they did not like but kept those things they did like. From you mother, you have kept, Sunday as your day of worship, Easter, Christmas, Trinity, Grace only, no Law (except of course church law) necessary for salvation. While you may not have brought along with you her ‘blatant idolatry’, her statues, her Madonnas, etc. but you have your spires, your crosses, your ‘sacred trees’, your angels, your flags and well, I do not need to continue, you know the things I speak of.

To all, this is the church that Paul and Constantine built and what are we to do with those who ask us to follow after them to worship other gods? What did our Creator, our heavenly Father say?

Exod 20:3-5

3 You shall have no other mighty ones before Me.

4 You shall not make for yourself any graven image, or any likeness of any thing that is in heaven above, or that is in the earth beneath, or that is in the water under the earth:

5 You shall not bow down yourself to them, nor serve them: for I YHWH your Mighty One am a jealous Mighty One, .....

Exod 23:13

13 And in all things that I have said unto you be circumspect: and make no mention of the name of other mighty ones, neither let it be heard out of your mouth.

Deut 13:1-11

1 If there arise among you a prophet, or a dreamer of dreams, and gives you a sign or a wonder,

2 And the sign or the wonder comes to pass, whereof he spoke to you, saying, Let us go after other mighty ones, which you have not known, and let us serve them;

3 You shall not listen to the words of that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams: for YHWH your Mighty One proves you, to know whether you love YHWH your Mighty One with all your heart and with all your soul.

4 You shall walk after YHWH your Mighty One, and fear him, and keep his commandments, and obey his voice, and you shall serve him, and cling to him.

5 And that prophet, or that dreamer of dreams, shall be put to death; because he has spoken to turn you away from YHWH, your Mighty One, Who brought you out of the land of Egypt, and redeemed you out of the house of bondage, to thrust you out of the way which YHWH you Mighty One commanded you to walk in. While this may sound extremely harsh, it also gives us insight into the importance to YHWH of following Him alone, of worshipping Him alone. While we do not have the position of even being allowed to take the life of those who would lead us astray, we do still have the privilege of making them ‘as dead’. We must refuse the teachings of those who would lead us into false teaching and false worship.

This is the Church that Paul, with Constantine’s help built... Will you follow the ones who lead you to destruction or will you seek truth? The choice is entirely up to you now, may you choose wisely.

28 Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law.

29 Is he the God of the Jews only? is he not also of the Gentiles? Yes, of the Gentiles also:

11 And you shall circumcise the flesh of your foreskin; and it shall be a token of the covenant between Me and you.

12 And he that is eight days old shall be circumcised among you, every man child in your generations, he that is born in the house, or bought with money of any stranger, which is not of your seed.

13 He that is born in your house, and he that is bought with your money, needs to be circumcised: and My covenant shall be in your flesh for an everlasting covenant.

14 And the uncircumcised man child whose flesh of his foreskin is not circumcised, that soul shall be cut off from his people; he has broken My covenant.

Gen 17:23-27
23 And Abraham took Ishmael his son, and all that were born in his house, and all that were bought with his money, every male among the men of Abraham's house; and circumcised the flesh of their foreskin in the selfsame day, as YHWH had said to him.

24 And Abraham was ninety-nine years old, when he was circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin.

25 And Ishmael his son was thirteen years old, when he was circumcised in the flesh of his foreskin.

26 In the very same day was Abraham circumcised, and Ishmael his son.

23 For the commandment is a lamp; and the law is light; and reproofs of instruction are the way of life:

Hosea 4:6
6 My people are destroyed for lack of knowledge: because you have rejected knowledge, I will also reject you, that you shall be no priest to Me: seeing you have forgotten the law of your Mighty One, I will also forget your children.
