The Day of Rest 3 Months, 3 Weeks ago
Jews say Saturday is the day of rest and they have very elaborate rules in Israel to follow. Many Christians think Sunday should be the day of worship, but some are not too concerned about the resting part.

Gen 2:2, And on the seventh day God finished his work that he had done, and he rested on the seventh day from all his work that he had done.

Ex 31:15, Six days shall work be done,, but the seventh day is a Sabbath of solemn rest, holy to the LORD. Whoever does any work on the Sabbath day shall be put to death.

Numbers 15:32-36, Even "gathering sticks" on the Sabbath deserved the death penalty.(No wonder the Jews were upset with Jesus when they thought that he violated the Sabbath)

What did Jesus have to say about the Sabbath?

Mark 2:27-28, "The Sabbath was made for man, not man for the Sabbath. So the Son of Man is lord even of the Sabbath."

John 5:5-17, Jesus had healed a man.

v8 "Get up,take up your bed and walk.
v9 And at once the man was healed, and he picked up his bed and walked.
v16 And this was why the Jews were persecuting Jesus, because he was doing these things on the Sabbath.
v17 But Jesus answered them, "My Father is working until now and I am working."

From verse 17, Jesus tells us that the Father has never stopped working. Jesus ordered the man who was healed to pick up his bed and walk (verses 8-9), which he did. According to the Numbers passage, this was work.

I know some farmers who will not plant, harvest or spray for weeds on a Sunday (their day of rest). But do the crops stop growing on any day of the week? Whether the farmers realize it or not, work is being done.

What then is the true rest that the Father wants us to have; if it is not a certain day each week? Jesus tells us, Matt 11:28-30:

"Come to me, all who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest. Take my yoke upon you, and learn from me, for I am gentle and lowly in heart, and you will find rest for your souls. For my yoke is easy, and my burden is light."
